Hythe Town 3 Chislehurst Glebe 2
Kent Senior Trophy 1st Round
Saturday 17th October 2026
The Cannons showed their resilience and fight as they twice came from behind to win 3-2 against SCEFL Premier Division Chislehurst Glebe in the first round of the Kent Senior Trophy on chilly damp Saturday evening at Cheriton Road.
Hythe made four changes to the starting line up with Adam Turton, Teddy Nelson, Josh McCue and Richie Keil coming in for Lewis Stevens-Toomey, Harry Maher, Monty Saunders and the suspended Jarred Trespaderne.
Yet again the game started poorly for Hythe as they fell behind after three minutes when a cross from the right by Tom Hever found the head of Ben Oladapo-Gamu who got in front of Hythe keeper Dan Smith and looped his header over him into the Hythe net.
Hythe had to wait until the seventh minute for their first opportunity as Richie Keil played the ball into the path of Jake Embery who pulled his effort just wide of the target. At the other end a corner from Brandon Barrance was headed over by Martin Baudelet.
In the 18th minute the Cannons were level. Josh Byford stole the ball from Hever in the Glebe penalty area with it going to Embery who attempted to round away keeper Albert Penney. However, he went too wide, and then pulled the ball back from the by-line to Harry Codd who poked it towards goal. Malakai Hyman cleared off the line but the ball came back to Codd and he made no mistake with his second attempt.
Glebe created a great opportunity half way through the first half as an in-swinging corner from Barrance found former Cannon Tom Hanfrey whose effort was well blocked by Smith with the ball coming back to Chris Ojemen but his shot went high over the bar.
The visitors were now looking the more likely to take the lead as a shot from 25 yards by Joseph Hall went just wide and then Ojemen fired an effort high and wide. Hythe were still getting the occasional chance as Byford pulled in a cross from the left finding debutant Adam Turton who lifted his attempt over the bar and then right-on half-time Embrey played in Codd but Penney was quick off his line to block.
The second half started the same as the first as on 47 minutes Glebe retook the lead as a long throw from Barrance bounced off a number of players before falling to Hever who blasted home to make it two one. It could have got worse for the Cannons a couple of minutes later as a clearance from Nelson was intercepted and Hever forced a save from Smith. The ball came out to Jamie Philpot but Smith was again to save.
Hythe were starting to threaten as Byford laid the ball off to Richie Keil but his effort went over the bar. Embery was then to force a save from Penney. There were still chances coming at the other end as a curling effort from Hanfrey was well saved by Smith. However, the pressure was intensifying on the Glebe defence as McCue drove just wide.
Glebe were tiring and the speed of Harry Linch on the right was causing them serious problems and on 82 minutes he was to be instrumental in the creation of the Hythe equaliser. He slid in a pin point ball from the right into Byford who planted the ball past Penney to bring the scores level. Only three minutes later the Cannons completed the turnaround. Linch was involved again as he chipped the ball to Nelson. He side footed into the path of Codd who made no mistake from close range to take Hythe into the second round of the Kent Senior Trophy.
It had been another magnificent performance from the Cannons as they are now unbeaten in ten games with nine wins and one draw. It was another game where it was hard to pick out a man of the match as everyone played their part.
