Hythe Town 0 Sutton Athletic 4

Southern Counties East Premier Division

Saturday 11th April 2026

Hythe Town’s traumatic season continued as a makeshift team went down 4-0 at home to md-table Sutton Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

There were only two changes from the team that performed so well at Whitstable Town on Bank Holiday Monday with Zian Nanda and Rotimi Johnson starting in place of Monty Saunders who was unwell and Ikye Dalton unavailable.

It was Sutton who were first into the attack as Ollie Milton lifted the ball over the Hythe cross bar and then a dangerous ball in from Namory Kane from the right went just out of the reach of Milton as he charged in.

Hythe keeper Ben Gamage was on hand to block a shot from Ashdon Day with his legs. Then came the move that broke the deadlock on 21 minutes as a header from Kane slammed against the bar. The ball eventually came out to Day who turned and put the ball past Gamage to give the visitors the lead.

There were no real chances created by the Cannons, although they worked hard, during the first period with only one other opportunity for Sutton coming on 31 minutes as Milton fired wide.

The second half started off in the same manner and on 50 minutes Sutton added their second goal as Milton poked the ball home and then on 53 minutes it was three as Milton laid the ball off to Harry Britten who made no mistake to put the game out of the reach of the Cannons.

Again, Hythe had a spell where they kept the visitors under control and during this time there was only one effort from Sutton as James Heasman shot wide. Hythe had to wait until the 79th minute for their first meaningful effort as a Richie Keil shot was blocked by the defence. The rebound came out to substitute and debutant Kwakho Jojo who blasted over.

The visitors were to make things worse for Hythe on 87 minutes as they added their fourth as the ball came over to Heasman who got the ball under control and then hooked the ball home. In the last few minutes, it could have got worse for the hosts as Gamage saved well from a driven attempt by Ben White and then Sutton had a goal chalked off for offside.

There was credit for the young Hythe side who did not stop battling all through the game against an experienced opposition. The team need to get through the next two games before the clubs regroups for next season.
