It was an afternoon to forget at a muddy Reachfields on Saturday afternoon as the Cannons were well and truly sunk by a rampant Phoenix Sports as they went down 4-0.
There were three changes to the Hythe line up with two of those enforced as Kian Scott came in for Armani-Jordan Martin who is on holiday, Folarin Awoleke replaced the suspended Hugo Taylor and Oscar Webb was in for Jerzy Kryzszka who was on the bench.
The game started very poorly for the Cannons as on two minutes there could have been a calamity opening goal as Hythe keeper Dan Kennedy rushed of his line to clear but missed the ball which continued to run on. Away striker Tyller Davis-Whitlock chased the ball but it out ran him to run out for a goal kick.
Hythe had their first effort on goal in the twelfth minute as Mo Kamara launched an effort from 20 yards over the bar and then the hosts produced their best move of the game as Steadman Callender put in a cross from the right that found Scott who headed down but away keeper Ryan McCourt was on hand to block.
As the half-progressed Phoenix began to look more dangerous, and they received their reward on 35 minutes as they were awarded a free kick out on the left. Louie Downey put in a deep ball that found former Cannon and Phoenix player manager Jake Goodman rising above the defence to head home. There was one more attempt in the half by the visitors as Davis-Whitlock turned and sent an effort high over the bar.
The early exchanges of the second period saw the early chances coming for Hythe as Monty Saunders had an effort that was deflected over the bar for a corner and then Jason Fregene played the ball in to Scott on the near post but the young striker put the ball just the wrong side of the upright.
Then came the two minutes where the Hythe defence seemed to go missing as firstly on 53 minutes Jamarie Brissett picked up a loose ball and ran in to round Kennedy and place the ball into the Hythe net and then two minutes Brissett surged in unchallenged and slot the ball past Kennedy to put Phoenix further ahead.
There was now little coming from the host and Phoenix put the final nail in the Hythe coffin eight minutes into injury time as he finished the game off to send the visitors home happy and the hosts very concerned as they now find themselves three points adrift of the relegation zone.
