Aylesford 2 Hythe Town 4
Pre-Season Friendly
Saturday 18th July 2026
The Cannons continued their 100% record in pre-season as they came through a hard test to win 4-2 at Kent County League Premier Division Aylesford on Saturday afternoon.
The vast majority of the chances in the first period came for Hythe with their first opportunity coming after only three minutes when firstly Josh Byford fired a shot that was well saved by the home keeper. Tom Walmsley followed up but miss hit his effort and that was again saved.
Aylesford’s keeper was in the action again as he palmed the ball away on 34 minutes when Billy Lewins curled an attempt towards the top corner.
Right on the stroke of half time the visitors took the lead. James Nurden sent in a cross from the right that was flicked on by Lewins to Walmsley who tapped in from close range.
There were a number of Hythe changes at half time but they continued to hold the initiative as the hosts were grateful for two great saves from their keeper firstly from a shot from Harry Maher and then from Harry Andrews.
On 64 minutes the Cannons increased their lead as Aylesford failed to clear the ball and Richie Keil picked up the loose ball and hit a shot that ricocheted off the right-hand post and into the home net. Four minutes later it was three as Harry Codd crossed in from the right to find Andrews who side footed home.
As the game went into the last ten minutes Aylesford gave Hythe a scare as firstly, they were awarded a penalty for a challenge in the area. Up stepped Tyler Bell whose kick found its way into the corner despite Hythe keeper Dan Smith getting his hand to the ball. Then on 84 minutes the gap was reduced to one goal as Bailey Pearce headed home a cross.
However, it was Hythe who were to have the last word on the game as Monty Saunders planted the ball into the corner of the net five minutes into injury time to seal the win.
It was a useful workout for Hythe on a 3G surface and there continues to be encouragement for the new season.
